January pump prices hit all-time high

WJXT Jacksonville? - -- rivers paid more for a gallon of gas this past January than ever before.According to a new report from AAA, January's monthly average was $3.37, 28 cents more than January 2011, and 66 cents more than in 2010, when the monthly average was $2.71.

Gas prices in Jacksonville reached as high as $3.69 a gallon last month, according to the report.

The group says things won't be getting better anytime soon.

The national average is expected to surpass $3.50 a gallon this week, while Florida's average already hit $3.60. Prices could go up 60 more cents by May.

Prices will keep rising because of refineries being shut down and no replacement one's being built. Also does the word "GREED" come to mind?
It is the oil companies making fuel in tight supply that keeps it high. The less fuel, the higher the price here at home and oversea's export (and you cann't say they are not making a killing abroad either)It will get worst later this year on the east coast with 3 refineries to close so oil stock piles will rise(cost down)and fuel will rise because they keep the supply tight to rape the people of their money.

Crude down & pump prices up. Get used to it. Refining capacity continues to shrink as East Coast refineries continue to be shuttered.

Not likely but maybe some of the country will catch up to where CA has been for awhile. Our taxes will keep us in the lead. Oh well, have to pay something to get mid Feb days in the 60's, clear and mild breeze.

Speculation running unchecked and greed in the oil sector make for a combination that will naturally drive the prices up!

Words like Iran, hurricane, refinery maintenance, oil disruption, greenie protests, EPA, etc are a feeding frenzy for speculators.

More fuel efficient vehicles and people just not being able to afford buying gas for extra trips, vacations and the like have lowered onshore fuel consumption. Raising the price of gas helps keep the bottom line looking good even though not as much product is being used. Oil producers selling products offshore, preventing a glut in domestic markets which would drive prices down and allows production to continue at its regular pace, ie..... "ExxonMobil posted a NET fourth quarter in come of 9.4 BILLION dollars". thats NET earnings not gross and thats billions with a capital "B"!!!!

They'll never figure out the tie between high gas prices and poor economy. People spend less on other things when they have to pay so much at the pump.

I hate to see gas Prices go up anywhere but I live in Windsor, Canada just across the border from Detroit and our gas just hit $4.61 a gallon. We get our gas in liters here and today it is $2.21 a liter and the conversion rate is 3.785 liters to the U.S. gallon. It sure hurts the pocketbook and they told us that gas would never reach a $1.00 a liter. OOPS...

Closed refineries, the groundhog and his shadow, the Patriots losing, the sun going down in the west, .... they don't need much of a reason to jack up pump prices. While they are at it, they are causing grocery prices, etc. to elevate.
